J.J. Barney Construction is seeking an experienced AP Specialist / Accounting Assistant to manage all aspects of accounts payable and support the finance team. The candidate will ensure accurate financial records, handle vendor inquiries, and assist with payroll backups in a fast-paced, on-site environment.

The role requires strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines while maintaining professional communication with vendors and project managers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; associate degree in accounting or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in accounts payable and accounting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel preferred) and accounting software.

Responsibilities

• Process vendor invoices through the accounts-payable workflow with approvals and timely payment.
• Manage credit card workflow and match transactions with bank feeds.
• Reconcile credit card, bank and vendor statements; obtain supporting documentation as needed.
• Respond professionally to vendor inquiries while maintaining positive relationships.
• Prepare and distribute job cost reports for Project Managers.
• Create intercompany invoices.
• Provide backup support for payroll processing.
• Request and track certificates of insurance for new equipment and vehicles.
• Maintain and update equipment documentation records.
• Provide general administrative support to the finance department.
