Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, LLC is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist with construction pay application experience to support subcontractor payments, retainage tracking, and accurate project cost coding in Colorado Springs.

You will collaborate with project and accounting teams, take ownership of key AP processes, and help ensure timely payments while maintaining vendor records and supporting month-end close.

Qualifications

• Requires prior accounts payable experience in construction.
• Experience reviewing subcontractor pay applications and lien waivers.
• Knowledge of retainage, lien waivers, subcontract agreements, and construction billing.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with project teams.
• Proficient in Excel and accounting software.
• Familiarity with AIA billing forms is preferred.

Responsibilities

Accounts Payable Key Responsibilities

• Review and process subcontractor pay applications, verifying amounts against subcontract agreements, approved change orders, and supporting documentation
• Track retainage and obtain required lien waivers before releasing payments
• The accounts payable specialist will process vendor invoices, ensuring accurate approvals, project assignments, and cost coding
• Coordinate with project managers to resolve discrepancies and obtain payment approvals
• Prepare payment runs according to company procedures and contractual terms
• Reconcile vendor statements, research discrepancies, and respond to payment inquiries
• Maintain vendor records, W-9s, and supporting payment documentation
• Assist with month-end close, accounts payable reconciliations, and audit requests

Accounts Payable Qualifications

• Previous accounts payable experience in the construction industry
• Hands-on experience reviewing and processing subcontractor pay applications required
• Understanding of retainage, lien waivers, subcontract agreements, and construction billing
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage deadlines
• Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach
