Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking an entry-level Accounting Tech 2 to perform routine posting and adjusting to the general ledger, process claims and invoices, and review transactions for completeness and compliance.

The role involves balancing routine financial data, preparing deposits daily, handling inmate monies, and generating weekly/monthly unit reports. Experience in bookkeeping or accounting and a high school diploma are required.

Qualifications

• Two years of full time or equivalent part time paid bookkeeping, accounting or related experience.
• Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent.
• Successful completion of college-level accounting courses may be substituted for the experience at the rate of three semester hours equals six months experience.
• Successful completion of related business school or vocational training may be substituted for the experience through an established formula.

Responsibilities

• Post and adjust to the general ledger.
• Process claims and invoices.
• Review transactions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
• Prepare deposits daily and checks for inmates sending money out, releases, transfers, etc.
• Enter all incoming money orders and balance accounts daily.
• Maintain spreadsheets to confirm balances and deductions (court orders, clerk orders, restitution, child support).
• Provide weekly and monthly reports to units and keep files orderly for auditing purposes.
• Assist with purchasing and accounts payable as needed.
