Job summary

The State of West Virginia seeks an Accounting Tech 2 at the Huttonsville Correctional Center to perform entry-level accounting support duties under general supervision. You will post to the general ledger, process claims, and review transactions for accuracy and compliance with state laws and regulations.

You will manage inmate funds, prepare deposits and checks, balance accounts daily, maintain spreadsheets, and provide weekly and monthly reports.

Qualifications

• Two years of full time or equivalent part time paid bookkeeping, accounting or related experience.
• Substitution: college-level accounting courses may substitute at three semester hours equals six months experience.
• Substitution: related business school or vocational training may substitute for the experience through an established formula.

Responsibilities

• Post to the general ledger and adjust entries.
• Process claims and invoices; review transactions for completeness and compliance with laws and regulations.
• Prepare deposits daily; prepare checks for inmates sending money out; enter incoming money orders.
• Balance accounts daily and provide weekly/monthly reports to units; maintain organized audit files.
• Assist with purchasing and accounts payable as needed.
