Accounting Supervisor, Alexandria, VA (hybrid/remote) ($80-90k)
The Accounting Supervisor will oversee a team of staff accountants and manage a variety of accounting functions for clients across multiple industries. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, effective staff management, and the ability to maintain accurate financial records while ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:
  1. Perform work according to the firm’s established methods, policies, and procedures.
  2. Prepare engagement correspondence for clients.
  3. Balance and maintain accurate ledgers, ensuring reconciliation with the general ledger.
  4. Download and integrate accounting transactions into multiple systems for accurate accounting and reconciliation.
  5. Manage vendor invoice payments or assist client employees with this function.
  6. Oversee invoicing and collection of accounts receivable.
  7. Supervise or directly process payroll and provide guidance to client staff on payroll matters.
  8. Offer accounting software support to clients and their staff, ensuring proper usage and troubleshooting.
  9. Provide ongoing accounting assistance to clients, answering inquiries and resolving issues.
  10. Prepare accounting work papers, including trial balances, depreciation schedules, and other financial documentation.
  11. Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting.
  12. Complete sales and use tax returns, and prepare related business tax returns as necessary.
  13. Manage the preparation of 1099 forms for clients.
  14. Prepare business license and personal property tax filings for clients annually.
  15. Independently manage client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and long-term partnerships.
  16. Lead and manage the work of CAS Staff I and II accountants, delegating tasks and reviewing output for accuracy and quality.
  17. Provide training, performance reviews, and guidance to CAS staff accountants.
  18. Contribute to business development activities, managing client relations, and identifying opportunities to add value to client services.
  19. Assist with additional duties as assigned by firm’s senior professional staff.

Responsibilities:
  1. Supervise and manage Staff Accountants.
  2. Responsible for recruitment, hiring, and conducting performance evaluations.
  3. Implement and/or identify training opportunities to support staff development.
  4. Address corrective actions, disciplinary issues, and terminations as necessary, in alignment with the firm’s policies.

Qualifications:
  1. Strong GAAP knowledge and experience, with a focus on general ledger reconciliation, tax filings, and payroll processing.
  2. Experience in managing a team of accounting professionals and providing guidance.
  3. Excellent client management skills and the ability to build strong, long-lasting client relationships.
  4. Strong proficiency with accounting software and systems.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with clients and internal team members.
