Job summary

Vaco is seeking an Accounting Manager / Bookkeeper to oversee a broad range of accounting duties in Irvine, CA. This hands-on role includes general ledger management, month-end close, payroll administration, and AP/AR to ensure accurate financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of accounting experience, proficiency with QuickBooks or ERP systems, and strong Excel and analytical skills. This temp-hire position supports budgeting, audits, and liaison with external CPAs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, payroll, AP/AR, and reconciliations.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks and/or other ERP/accounting systems.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage general ledger activities and support the full month-end close process.
• Prepare journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, depreciation, and deferred revenue.
• Complete balance sheet, bank, and credit card reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Administer bi-weekly payroll through an external payroll provider, including commissions, bonuses, overtime, deductions, new hires, terminations, and pay changes.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor bills, billing, cash applications, collections, and credit card payments.
• Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and management reporting.
• Ensure revenue and expenses are recorded accurately and within the appropriate accounting period.
• Coordinate annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial projections.
• Partner with the external CPA on quarterly tax payments, annual income tax filings, and year-end schedules.
• Prepare annual 1099s and maintain customer and vendor documentation, including W-9s and banking information.
• Coordinate and support payroll/EDD, 401(k), workers' compensation, general liability, and other audits.
• Maintain accurate accounting records, internal controls, and supporting documentation.
