Job description

Accounting Manager

East Dallas - 3 days onsite

Compensation: $120-130K + bonus

We are seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee the review, reconciliation, and financial integrity of the company's accounts receivable (AR) function. This role will serve as the primary review-level resource for AR activities largely executed by an offshore team, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded, properly classified, and reconciled to the general ledger (GL).

The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of the full accounts receivable lifecycle, including billing, cash application, collections, adjustments, unidentified deposits, and subledger-to-GL reconciliations. While the day-to-day processing and reporting responsibilities are primarily handled offshore, this individual will be responsible for reviewing reports, identifying discrepancies, researching exceptions, coordinating resolutions, and ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting.

This is a hands-on oversight role for an accounting professional who can connect the details of AR activity to the broader accounting picture, identify root causes of discrepancies, and ensure balances are properly supported and cleared in accordance with month-end close requirements.

We've essentially helped rebuild the accounting team (placed 10+ people out there) from scratch and have received great feedback on company culture and leadership!

Company offers unlimited PTO, industry-leading benefits, tons of "ground floor" opportunities to make an impact and grow as the company grows

Day-to-Day
  • Oversee review-level accounts receivable activities performed by the offshore team, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established accounting procedures.
  • Review AR aging reports and monitor outstanding balances, with particular attention to aging items between 31 and 121 days, ensuring collections, cash applications, and adjustments are appropriately reflected.
  • Investigate discrepancies between the AR aging report, AR subledger, and general ledger, identifying missing transactions, under-collections, unapplied cash, or other reconciling items.
  • Ensure AR balances tie out accurately to the GL and that discrepancies are researched, documented, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Review customer-level activity and coordinate with collections, payroll specialists, and other internal stakeholders to resolve outstanding balances and transaction discrepancies.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the AR lifecycle and how billing, collections, cash receipts, adjustments, and reclassifications impact the general ledger.
  • Review AR reports and account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information.
  • Investigate unusual balances, aging trends, unapplied cash, and other exceptions that could affect the accuracy of the financial statements.
  • Ensure AR-related GL accounts are properly classified and supported before month-end close.
  • Identify recurring discrepancies and recommend process improvements to reduce errors, improve reconciliation efficiency, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Partner with the offshore accounting team to ensure reports are accurate, exceptions are escalated appropriately, and outstanding items are resolved.
  • Maintain clear documentation of reconciliations, adjustments, research findings, and outstanding action items to support the close process and audit requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful exposure to accounts receivable and general ledger accounting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the full AR lifecycle, including billing, cash application, collections, adjustments, and reconciliation.
  • Strong experience reconciling subledger balances to the general ledger and researching discrepancies to their root cause.
  • Experience reviewing AR aging reports, investigating unapplied cash or unidentified deposits, and resolving account reconciliation issues.
  • Strong understanding of GL account mapping, journal entries, reclassifications, and financial statement impact.
  • Experience supporting month-end close and maintaining accurate, well-supported account reconciliations.
