Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience with ideally 2+ years in public accounting.
• CPA or CPA-track preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Experience leading month-end close processes in a growing organization.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operational accounting activities including general ledger, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close.
• Oversee and review financial reporting packages to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Lead accounting process improvements and streamline workflows across the finance function.
• Partner with operational and executive leadership to support business initiatives and financial decision-making.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Coordinate with external auditors and support year-end audit activities.
• Analyze financial data and provide actionable insights to leadership.
• Support implementation or optimization of ERP systems and accounting technology tools.

An established organization experiencing continued growth in Rockville, Maryland is looking to add an Operational Accounting Manager to its team. This individual will play an important role in strengthening day-to-day accounting operations, identifying opportunities for greater efficiency, and working closely with leaders throughout the business. The position is well suited for someone who enjoys a high-energy environment, process improvement, and having a visible impact on the broader organization.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in public accounting OR operational accounting, financial reporting, month-end close management, and process improvement initiatives while partnering cross-functionally with business leaders.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operational accounting activities including general ledger, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close
• Oversee and review financial reporting packages to ensure accuracy and timeliness

• Advanced Excel skills and ERP system experience required

• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently in a hybrid work environment
• Base salary up to $130,000 depending on experience
