Job summary

Vaco is seeking an Accounting Manager in Downtown Manhattan with a CPA and 5+ years of leadership-focused accounting experience. You will own Workday-based accounting processes and drive close, reporting, and regulatory deliverables under US GAAP.

You will mentor a team, partner with business units, and leverage AI tools to modernize workflows while balancing tax accuracy and compliance. The role blends on-site and remote work with a strong cross-functional focus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting; CPA designation required.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership or mentorship exposure.
• Deep working knowledge of US GAAP and ability to apply principles to complex transactions.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise ERP systems (Workday preferred; SAP or Oracle highly regarded).
• Demonstrated ability to learn and adopt AI/automation tools to streamline operations.
• Strong change management and communication skills.

Role: Accounting Manager

Salary: $125.000 - $150,000/annually + Bonus

Location: Downtown, Manhattan - *3 days a week onsite - 2 days WFH*

Job Description

• Financial Close & Reporting: Support accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closes. Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and regulatory deliverables in compliance with US GAAP and internal policies.
• Financial Analysis: Assist with trial balance reviews and develop detailed variance analyses and commentary.
• Transaction Accounting: Partner with Financial Reporting and business teams to evaluate and ensure proper accounting treatment for new business transactions.
• Workday System Ownership: Serve as the functional accounting lead for Workday, driving customization decisions, testing, and implementation of new feature releases.
• Process Optimization & AI Integration: Leverage modern technology (including Google Gemini) to automate accounting workflows, improve operational efficiency, and modernize ways of working.
• Strategic Initiatives: Lead and contribute to high-impact, cross-functional projects, including Workday Design Reviews.
• Compliance & Tax Review: Oversee financial ratio calculations for regulatory compliance and review GST/HST tax filings.
• Team Leadership: Mentor and develop direct reports by setting aligned, challenging goals, delivering timely feedback, and leading ongoing training for the broader team.

Required Experience, Skills & Qualifications

• Education & Credentials: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting; active CPA designation (or equivalent) required.
• Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including direct leadership or mentorship exposure.
• Technical Accounting: Deep working knowledge of US GAAP with a proven ability to research and apply accounting principles to complex, non-standard transactions.
• Systems Expertise: Hands-on experience with enterprise ERP systems (Workday preferred; SAP or Oracle highly regarded).
• Tech-Forward Mindset: Demonstrated ability to learn and adopt emerging technologies-including AI and automation tools-to streamline operations.
• Change Management & Communication: Proven success navigating process improvements and business change, backed by strong written and verbal communication skills.
