Bring construction accounting and job-costing expertise, strategic thinking, and a collaborative leadership style. Youll work across departments to improve automation, reporting visibility, and financial decision-making.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in construction accounting and financial management.

Responsibilities

Connor Painting is looking for an Accounting Manager who can do more than manage the numbers — we're looking for someone who can help us build what's next.

As a growing commercial and industrial specialty contractor, we're continuing to evolve our systems, technology and processes to support the next stage of our business. We need an experienced accounting leader who understands construction accounting and job costing, but who also brings curiosity, new ideas, innovation and a continuous-improvement mindset.

Our Accounting Manager will oversee the company's accounting function while also serving as a strategic partner to ownership and our Leadership Committee. You'll have the opportunity to evaluate existing processes, improve reporting and visibility, leverage technology and automation, and help develop scalable systems that support better business decisions.

Job Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight & Accounting Operations

• Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll support, and general ledger management
• Maintain accurate and timely financial records, reconciliations, and reporting
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Monitor company cash flow, working capital, and overall financial health
• Review and maintain company credit card reconciliations and vendor account balances
• Coordinate with external CPA partners regarding taxes, year-end reporting, and financial reviews
• Ensure financial information is accurate, organized, and audit ready

Job Costing & Profitability Analysis

• Oversee job costing accuracy across all projects and service lines
• Analyze job profitability, labor performance, and margin trends
• Partner with operations to ensure alignment between field activity and financial reporting
• Support leadership with forecasting, cost tracking, and financial decision making
• Assist in improving visibility into production performance and job financials
• Review project related financial data for accuracy across systems including QuickBooks, ProCore, HubSpot, and other operational platforms
• Oversee invoicing processes and ensure billing accuracy
• Review and support complex customer billing processes including AIA billing, percentage of completion billing, and customer specific billing requirements
• Ensure proper revenue recognition and timing
• Review payroll reporting and labor allocation to ensure labor costs are properly reflected in job costing
• Support bonus tracking and reporting processes
• Professionally and consistently follow up on outstanding customer payments and receivables
• Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, project managers, and leadership regarding billing, collections, documentation, and payment status

Systems, Reporting & Process Improvement

• Own and help optimize financial systems, reporting structures, and accounting workflows
• Improve communication and workflows between accounting, operations, estimating, and project management teams
• Identify inefficiencies and implement scalable solutions related to accounting, reporting, and operational processes
• Assist with implementation, optimization, and integration of company software and operational systems
• Support leadership with development of financial dashboards, KPI tracking, and operational reporting
• Help create more standardized and scalable financial processes across the organization
• Proactively recommend improvements related to automation, reporting visibility, software utilization, and workflow efficiency

Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax requirements, and internal controls
• Maintain organized financial documentation and records retention processes
• Support audits, insurance reporting, certified payroll reporting, and customer financial documentation requests
• Assist with monitoring lien waivers, tax exempt documentation, certificates of insurance, and customer compliance requirements as needed
• Assist with insurance administration, including certificates of insurance (COIs), claims support, policy documentation, and customer/vendor insurance compliance requests

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience in construction accounting and financial management
• Experience with job costing and project based financial tracking
• Strong understanding of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, reconciliations, payroll reporting, and financial statements
• Advanced understanding of accounting software integrations, workflow automation, and digital process improvement
• Strong proficiency in QuickBooks, Procore, Microsoft 365, and multiple procurement and supplier management platforms (for example: Ariba, Coupa, ISNetworld (ISN), JAGGAER, etc.)
• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to evolving software platforms and operational systems
• Ability to identify inefficiencies and proactively recommend scalable technology or process improvements
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication skills with the ability to professionally and confidently communicate with customers, vendors, leadership, and internal teams
• Ability to remain organized, responsive, and solutions focused while managing multiple ongoing financial priorities
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information
