About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and detail‑oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join a growing organization within the construction industry. This role will play a critical part in supporting daily accounting operations with a strong emphasis on job cost accounting, project profitability, financial reporting, and operational support.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong accounting foundation, experience working in fast‑paced environments, and hands‑on exposure to construction accounting processes. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support day‑to‑day accounting operations and financial activities.
- Perform job cost accounting and monitor project budgets and profitability.
- Analyze project costs and assist with cost tracking and reporting.
- Process and reconcile payroll‑related entries, benefits, and liabilities.
- Calculate, reconcile, and maintain commission reporting records.
- Assist with revenue recognition and cost of goods sold (COGS) tracking.
- Prepare journal entries and complete account reconciliations accurately and timely.
- Support month‑end and year‑end close activities.
- Prepare and assist with financial reporting and analysis.
- Maintain organized accounting records and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Partner with operations and leadership teams to support business objectives and financial planning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline preferred.
- 6–8 years of progressive accounting experience required.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
- Experience with job‑cost accounting and project‑based financial tracking.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- High attention to detail with excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience within the construction industry strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of WIP (Work‑in‑Progress) accounting, overbilling, and underbilling schedules.
- Experience using accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Gusto, or similar systems.
- Familiarity with construction financial workflows and project lifecycle reporting.
