The Accounting Manager leads the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities. This role is responsible for the integrity of financial reporting, the strength of internal controls, and the development of the accounting team. The Accounting Manager partners with the Controller on budgeting, forecasting, and audit readiness, and serves as the primary point of escalation for accounting staff on complex transactions and process issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and general ledger functions.
- Direct the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations.
- Own the month-end and year-end close process, setting the close calendar and holding the team accountable to deadlines.
- Review reconciliations of bank statements and balance sheet accounts, resolving discrepancies and ensuring supporting documentation meets audit standards.
- Design, implement, and enforce accounting policies and procedures that strengthen internal controls and improve operational efficiency.
- Serve as the primary liaison for the annual audit, coordinating documentation requests, managing auditor relationships, and resolving inquiries.
- Hire, train, mentor, and manage performance of accounting staff, building a team with strong technical skills and a culture of accountability.
- Monitor changes in accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry practices, recommending and implementing process improvements.
- Partner with the Controller on ad hoc financial analysis, system improvements, and cross-departmental initiatives.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal control frameworks.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
- Proven ability to manage, develop, and motivate a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Effective communicator able to translate financial information for non-financial stakeholders and collaborate across departments.
