Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within real estate, property management, or a related industry.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
• Experience managing accounting for multiple entities and complex financial transactions.
• Experience with property management accounting, including CAM reconciliations and lease accounting.
• Experience with AppFolio or similar property management software strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and month-end close.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a small team environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting policies and GAAP.
• Manage cash flow, prepare cash forecasts, and reconcile bank activity across multiple entities.
• Coordinate the annual budgeting process and monitor actual results against budget.
• Prepare CAM reconciliations for commercial tenants.
• Oversee property-level accounting for both commercial and residential real estate portfolios.
• Monitor lease agreements and ensure proper revenue recognition.
• Coordinate with external CPA firms, insurance providers, and other third-party vendors.
• Supervise or support bookkeeping and administrative staff as needed.
• Evaluate and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting systems.
• Assist with audit preparation and provide supporting documentation as requested.
• Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to improve operational and financial performance.
• Support leadership with ad hoc financial reporting and special projects.
