Job summary

COUNTRY Financial is seeking an accounting intern to gain real-world experience across Income Tax, Internal Audit, and Financial Reporting. You will work with mentors, participate in case studies, and network with professionals while contributing to projects.

Ideal candidates are pursuing accounting with CPA aspirations, available late May 2027 to August 2027, and willing to continue part-time into fall 2027 and spring 2028. Strong Excel skills and communication are valued.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Accounting; CPA track preferred.
  • Available for full-time hours from late May 2027 to early August 2027; internship extendable through fall 2027 and spring 2028; graduation May 2028 or later.
  • Strong customer service, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication; organized and detail-oriented.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work under pressure.

This opportunity interacts with three separate areas of the organization: Income Tax, Internal Audit, and Financial Reporting. Each area provides an opportunity to see a different function of the organization.

Income tax focuses on the periodical accruals for both state and federal income tax, crossing over various industries, as well as assisting with the preparation and review of the final returns. Internal Audit provides independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the company’s operations. While providing a unique opportunity to work both with internal teams at the company as well as our external auditors. Financial Reporting’s primary focus is on the creation of all internal and external financial statements and regulatory filings. This also includes completing thorough analysis over each statement to ensure their appropriateness and material accuracy.

Application Timeline

We know waiting can be difficult, so we want to set expectations upfront. Our internship recruiting process takes place over several months. Applications open in mid-September and are reviewed as they are received. HR interviews are expected to begin in mid-October, followed by interviews with hiring leaders. Depending on the role and applicant volume, hiring decisions and offers may be made anytime from October through January. We appreciate your patience throughout the process and will communicate updates as they become available.

Do you have what we're looking for?

Pursuing a degree in Accounting. Ideally on a track for CPA designation. This is a year-long internship. Must be able to work full-time hours from late May 2027 to early August 2027. The internship will be extended part-time through fall 2027 and spring 2028. Graduation date of May 2028 or beyond. Strong customer service, negotiation, and conflict management skills. Ability to be productive, with high degree of accuracy/attention to detail. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be organized, self-motivated, and proactive. Exercises analytical and critical thinking skills. Responds well under pressure. Demonstrates intellectual curiosity. High familiarity with Microsoft Excel.

Country is headquartered in Bloomington, IL and our corporate internship program follows a hybrid schedule. If you're based at our Bloomington, IL corporate office, you'll enjoy a hybrid work schedule - three days in the office and two days working remotely. For roles posted as remote, candidates who live more than 50 miles from Bloomington, IL may qualify for a fully remote arrangement.
