Summary: The Accounting Department is seeking adjunct instructors for a variety of day, evening, and online credit classes. The instructor will teach courses such as Principles of Accounting I & II, QuickBooks, Bookkeeper Review, Cost Accounting, Intermediate Accounting I & II, Advanced Accounting, Individual Tax, Corporate Tax, Auditing, and Intro to Data Analytics. Instructors are passionate, knowledgeable, and dedicated, working with diverse adolescent and adult learners and interested in professional development.

Essential Role Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned course hours each week
  • Plan lessons
  • Assess regularly and give timely feedback to students
  • Complete required paperwork and maintain accurate records (attendance, grades)
  • Deliver planned lessons in the classroom or online according to program standards
  • Reflect on instructional and classroom practices to engage and support students of diverse, particularly minoritized, backgrounds
  • Monitor HCC email for program updates and information
  • Attend required professional development and departmental meetings
Experience Required
  • Active CPA license (prior teaching experience preferred but not required)
  • Current best practices in accounting
  • Knowledge of and ability to assess diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
  • Basic technology skills; familiarity with an LMS such as Canvas is beneficial
Location and Eligibility

The position is based at Howard Community College in Maryland. Candidates must live in a state contiguous to Maryland (Virginia, West Virginia, Washington DC, Pennsylvania) and are expected to commute or relocate at their own expense. Work visa sponsorship is not typically offered.
