Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking an Accountant 1 to support the Bureau of Business Taxpayer Accounting. The role focuses on reviewing financial transactions and ensuring accuracy of restricted credit activities in corporate tax accounts, advising on improvements and maintaining reliable records.

You will work with interagency teams, validate data, and participate in audits while adhering to policy requirements and training.

Qualifications

• Completion of Commonwealth's Accounting Intern Program or equivalent Federal Government job title.
• One year as Financial Programs Trainee or equivalent.
• One year as Fiscal Technician with fifteen accounting credits.
• Five years of Bookkeeping experience with accounting credits.
• Bachelor’s Degree including or supplemented by fifteen accounting credits.
• Applicants may qualify within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Responsibilities

• Review financial transactions to identify errors, missing data, duplicates, or inappropriate refunds.
• Evaluate statutory compliance for restricted credit programs and accuracy of posted credit activity.
• Assess accounting methods, system procedures, and workflows to recommend improvements.
• Examine system generated notices, interest calculations, penalties, and fee processing for accuracy.
• Serve as a liaison to other divisions and agencies to improve workflows and share guidance.
• Verify transaction accuracy using internal databases and software to support audit requests.
