Job description

Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper – Community Association Management

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Position Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $28.00 – $31.00 / hour ($58,240 – $64,480 / year)

Work Schedule: On-site (5 days/week) for Year 1 during comprehensive training; eligible for an ultra-flexible hybrid schedule (2 days per month in office) after the first year.

About the Opportunity

An established leader in full-service community association management with over four decades of Arizona roots is seeking a detail-oriented, full-cycle Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper to join its accounting team.

This role manages the full financial operations for a dedicated portfolio of Homeowners’ Associations (HOAs). We are looking for an immediate hire to participate in a structured, side‑by‑side training and knowledge‑transfer period working directly with an experienced senior team member ahead of an upcoming retirement.

Core Responsibilities
  • Full-Cycle Financial Operations: Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready financial records and general ledgers across an assigned portfolio of community associations.
  • Accrual-Basis Reporting: Prepare, review, and distribute complete monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements on a strict full-accrual basis in accordance with established reporting deadlines.
  • Cash Management & General Ledger: Record daily cash receipts, post entries to appropriate accounts, process adjusting journal entries, and maintain chronological deposit documentation.
  • Reconciliations: Execute monthly bank reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable reconciliations, and routine ACH transaction reporting.
  • Accounts Payable & Disbursements: Process vendor invoices, schedule disbursements twice monthly or as needed, and verify recurring payments (utilities, management fees, reserve contributions).
  • Builder & Developer Deficit Funding: Accurately calculate and bill developer deficit funding during active development and transition periods—reconciling operating expenses against collected homeowner assessments and invoicing the developer for operating shortfalls.
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
  • Education: Minimum of an Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent hands‑on full-cycle bookkeeping experience).
  • Experience: 4+ years of full-cycle bookkeeping or accounting experience, specifically within HOA/Property Management, Construction, or Manufacturing environments where project-based, job-cost, or third‑party financial tracking is standard.
  • Full Accrual Proficiency: Hands‑on mastery of full‑accrual accounting principles, including prepaids, accrued liabilities, deferred revenues, and month‑end closing journal entries.
  • Deficit / Project Cost Tracking: Demonstrated ability to handle builder deficit calculations or equivalent cost‑allocation/pass‑through billing to external third parties.
  • Technical Skills: High proficiency with accounting software platforms, Microsoft Excel, and standard office applications.
  • Retirement: 401(k) with company match
  • Healthcare: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance + Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Insurance: Company‑paid life insurance and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Paid Time Off: Generous PTO policy plus ~12 paid holidays per year
  • Career Growth: Structured paid training and ongoing professional development assistance
