Job Description:


SUMMARY:

The Accessibility and Learning Specialist is a member of the Office of Academic Support, which is housed in the Office of Medical School Student Affairs at The Warren Alpert Medical School (the Medical School). The Office of Medical School Student Affairs supports medical students throughout medical school, in part by fostering an open, caring, and inclusive learning environment and serving as a responsive resource for medical students. In addition to medical students, students in the Program in Liberal Medical Education and students in Masters' Degree Program that fall under the medical school umbrella (the Gateways in Medicine program) are also supported in their academic achievement. The Specialist conducts student intake interviews and reviews medical, psychological, and neuropsychological information to determine eligibility for accommodations and identifies what accommodations are appropriate based on the disability and program requirements. They support the Medical School, and its clinical partners in implementing those accommodations. In addition, the Specialist provides referrals to neuropsychological testing and to other clinicians as indicated. The Specialist also promotes student achievement by improving student academic skills through one-on-one learning consultations as well as group presentations. The Specialist engages in professional development and other projects/activities as needed to support the Office of Academic Support.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education, Rehabilitation Services or similar program plus 5-7 years of experience working with students with disabilities in a college setting Masters preferred.

  • Counseling coursework preferred.

  • Experience: or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Formal training and education in disabilities services

  • Experience working with diverse student populations

  • Knowledge of ADA and of various learning disabilities

  • Experience with reviewing and evaluating documentation to determine accommodations in higher education or employment settings.
