Job summary

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is seeking a Specialist, Lock and Key to safeguard campus facilities and support security infrastructure. You will manage district access control, issue keys and cards, supervise technicians, maintain locks and electronic access systems, and coordinate with Public Safety, Facilities, and IT.

Responsibilities include recordkeeping, staff training, and compliance with security regulations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with coursework in locksmithing or related trades.
• Two years’ work experience in locksmithing or building construction trades.
• Preferred: Associate’s degree and three years in building trades.
• Licenses/certifications: Locksmith or Carpentry; OSHA 10.

Responsibilities

• Lock and Key Management: manage key/access card requests, lock work orders, emergencies, and system characteristics.
• Recordkeeping and Reporting: maintain district records on key/lock projects and incidents.
• Training and Education: train staff on access control systems and related procedures.
• Inventory and Supply Management: maintain locks, exit devices, alarm parts, and supplies.
• Security Support: monitor access systems, coordinate contracted work, ensure regulatory compliance.
• Preventative Maintenance and Compliance: inspect and repair locking systems and hardware.
• Ethics and Confidentiality: handle information with discretion.
• Cross Functional Relationships and Collaborative Teamwork: work with staff, faculty and administrators.
• Continuous Learning & Professional Development: stay updated on best practices in higher education security.
• Other duties: perform related tasks to support operations.
