GEO Group is seeking an Academics Instructor in Golden Valley, AZ to deliver vocational, technical, and academic instruction to inmates, enhancing their learning potential and readiness for work. You will develop lessons, assess needs, and maintain records in a corrections environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
• CTE certification in the occupational area.
• Five years verified work experience in the trade area.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Must be able to deal with people in a variety of changing and complex situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to inmates/detainees for labor and/or technical skills.
• Maintain records including testing, daily offender work, attendance, and general record keeping.
• Assess educational needs and develop lesson plans to address those needs with individualized assignments and training.
• Administer, score, and interpret examinations and proficiency indicators.
• Counsel students regarding performance, behavior, and personal problems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Summary: The Academics Instructor is an academic programs position. The focus is to create a vocational technical and academic environment that provides inmates/detainees the opportunity to maximize their learning potential and achieve or enhance an ability to perform academic tasks.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Academics Instructor provides instruction to inmates/detainees for various labor and/or technical skills through classroom instruction, demonstration, and practical exercises.
• Maintains records including testing, daily offender work, attendance, and general record keeping.
• The Academics Instructor assesses educational needs of inmates, develops lessons plans to address those needs to include individualized assignments and training.
• Administers, scores, and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators.
• The Academics Instructor counsels' students concerning their performance, behavior, and personal problems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma, GED certification or equivalent required.
• Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification in the occupational area.
• Five (5) years verified work experience in the trade area required.
• Must be able to deal with people in a variety of changing and complex situations.
