GEO Group is seeking an Academics Instructor to provide vocational and academic instruction to inmates/detainees, delivering classroom instruction, demonstrations, and practical exercises within a correctional setting.

The role involves developing lesson plans, keeping detailed records, assessing educational needs, and counseling students on performance and behavior. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent required.
• CTE certification in the occupational area.
• Five years verified work experience in the trade area.
• Ability to deal with people in a variety of changing and complex situations.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• The Academics Instructor provides instruction to inmates/detainees for various labor and/or technical skills through classroom instruction, demonstration, and practical exercises.
• Maintains records including testing, daily offender work, attendance, and general record keeping.
• The Academics Instructor assesses educational needs of inmates, develops lesson plans to address those needs to include individualized assignments and training.
• Administers, scores, and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators.
• The Academics Instructor counsels’ students concerning their performance, behavior, and personal problems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary: The Academics Instructor is an academic programs position. The focus is to create a vocational technical and academic environment that provides inmates/detainees the opportunity to maximize their learning potential and achieve or enhance an ability to perform academic tasks.
