GEO Secured Services in Minnesota seeks an Academics Instructor to create a vocational and academic environment that helps inmates maximize learning and gain skills.

You will deliver classroom instruction, assess needs, maintain records, and provide guidance on performance and behavior, contributing to rehabilitation outcomes.

This full-time role emphasizes hands-on teaching, documentation, and adherence to program standards in a correctional setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
• CTE certification in the occupational area.
• Five (5) years verified work experience in the trade area.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Must be able to deal with people in a variety of changing and complex situations.

Responsibilities

• Instruct inmates in labor/technical skills via classroom, demonstrations, and exercises.
• Maintain records: tests, attendance, work, and general records.
• Assess educational needs and develop lesson plans with individualized assignments.
• Administer, score, and interpret exams and proficiency indicators.
• Counsel students on performance, behavior, and personal issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Summary:

The Academics Instructor is an academic programs position. The focus is to create a vocational technical and academic environment that provides inmates/detainees the opportunity to maximize their learning potential and achieve or enhance an ability to perform academic tasks.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Academics Instructor provides instruction to inmates/detainees for various labor and/or technical skills through classroom instruction, demonstration, and practical exercises.
• Maintains records including testing, daily offender work, attendance, and general record keeping.
• The Academics Instructor assesses educational needs of inmates, develops lessons plans to address those needs to include individualized assignments and training.
• Administers, scores, and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators.
• The Academics Instructor counsels' students concerning their performance, behavior, and personal problems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma, GED certification or equivalent required.
• Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification in the occupational area.
• Five (5) years verified work experience in the trade area required.
• Must be able to deal with people in a variety of changing and complex situations.
