Job summary

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's Department of Pathology is seeking a full-time surgical pathologist to serve as Medical Director of the Immunohistochemistry Laboratory. The appointment is at HMS with rank commensurate with experience and includes teaching responsibilities.

Qualifications

• MD or DO, board certification in Pathology (AP or AP/CP) and a valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts medical license or ability to obtain one.
• Experience leading an immunohistochemistry laboratory.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder laboratory management processes, preferably within acute care or academic medical environments.
• Outstanding communication, organizational, and team-building skills, with the ability to collaborate across service lines and communicate effectively with grieving families.
• Experience in quality improvement, informatics, regulatory compliance, or operational leadership strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical, scientific, and operational leadership for a high-volume academic IHC service.
• Oversee assay development, validation, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with anatomic pathology leadership, molecular pathology, clinical laboratories, and oncology research teams to grow the IHC program.
• Provide clinical coverage in one or more surgical pathology subspecialties (GI, GU, breast, gynecologic, or bone/soft tissue).
• Participate in teaching and HMS duties as part of the HMS appointment.
