Successful candidates will be appointed to the full-time faculty of Harvard Medical School (HMS) at an academic rank commensurate with seniority and clinical and academic accomplishments (Instructor, Assistant Professor or Associate Professor). An HMS appointment is associated with teaching responsibilities. Both recent fellowship graduates and mid-career/senior physicians are strongly encouraged to apply.The Medical Director of the Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Laboratory will provide clinical, scientific, and operational leadership for a high-volume academic IHC service. The Director will oversee assay development, validation, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance, with a particular emphasis on novel oncology biomarkers. The ideal candidate has demonstrated expertise in developing, optimizing, and validating new antibodies—especially those supporting precision oncology, targeted therapies, and translational research.This individual will partner closely with anatomic pathology leadership, molecular pathology, clinical laboratories, and oncology research teams to grow an innovative, state-of-the-art IHC program that supports clinical care, clinical trials, and investigator-initiated research.The position also includes clinical coverage in one or more of the surgical pathology subspecialty services depending on the candidate’s interest and qualifications in gastrointestinal, gynecologic, genitourinary, breast or bone and soft tissue pathology.The candidate will be appointed to the full-time faculty of Harvard Medical School at an academic rank commensurate with experience (Instructor, Assistant Professor or Associate Professor). Actual compensation within this range may be determined based on several factors, including academic appointment, work experience, specialty training, geography of work location, anticipated productivity, FTE basis, and role expectations.
