Job summary

Joliet Junior College is seeking an Academic Advisor to provide comprehensive academic pathway coaching for new and continuing students. You will liaise between the Student Advising Center and assigned pathways, guide undecided students, and support those with probationary status or financial aid appeals.

You will collaborate with Enrollment Management and Academic Affairs to assist with special permissions, major changes, and transcripts.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required.
• Minimum three years of advising or academic coaching in higher education.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide guided academic pathway coaching for new, continuing, transfer, and undecided students; assist with course selection and navigate placement tests.
• Serve as point of contact for initial advising for reverse transfer and returning student onboarding.
• Assist faculty advisors with financial aid appeals, probation, suspension cases, and veteran planning.
• Collaborate with Enrollment Management to support major/pathway changes and financial aid appeals.
• Assist with special permissions for course enrollment and act as a generalist for pathway coaching.
• Coordinate unofficial transcript reviews with Records/Academic departments as needed.
• Participate in curriculum updates and training on articulation agreements and transfer tools.
• Provide pathway coaching with Disability Services for students with disabilities.
• Monitor academic progress and refer students to campus resources; report progress to leadership.
• Maintain student files in advising software and document updates; use data for reporting and campaigns.
• Explain college policies during orientations and onboarding sessions for new students and families.
• Aid in recruitment by informing about degree/certificate requirements and enrollment procedures.
• Maintain thorough records to support enrollment, retention, and matriculation reporting.
• Other duties as assigned.
