Job summary

Joliet Junior College seeks an Academic Advisor to guide new and continuing students through their educational pathways. You will interpret placement scores, assist with course selection, and support students aiming for certificates, degrees or transfers.

Working in the Student Advising Center, you will collaborate with faculty, enrollment management, and disability services to create success plans, track progress, and connect students with campus resources.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field is required.
• At least 3 years of advising or academic coaching in higher education.
• Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of academic and occupational programs, articulation agreements, transfer guides, and financial aid processes.
• Ability to work independently within deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• Proficient with computers and advising software/databases.
• Commitment to diversity and collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic pathway coaching for diverse student groups and undecided majors.
• Serve as liaison between Student Advising Center and academic pathways.
• Assist with financial aid appeals and probation/suspension cases.
• Collaborate with Enrollment Management on major changes and planning.
• Assist in course enrollment permissions and refer to faculty advisors when needed.
• Maintain student files and document changes in advising systems.
• Produce progress reports and support auditing using Navigate or similar tools.
• Provide orientations and present academic information to students and families.
• Recruit potential students with information on degree requirements.
• Travel between campus locations for outreach as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
