Job Description for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and Lecturer

This role combines clinical and academic responsibilities of a CRNA. Clinically, the CRNA provides anesthetic care for diverse patients and procedures, working with physicians and adhering to hospital policies. The role involves administering anesthesia, monitoring patient responses, and ensuring safety throughout surgical procedures.

Academically, the CRNA serves as a Lecturer in the WVU School of Nursing's DNP Nurse Anesthetist Program, collaborating with program leadership and serving as a faculty member responsible for course management, instruction, student advising, and DNP project mentorship.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Unencumbered nursing license or eligibility for licensure as an APRN in West Virginia.
  • Active CRNA certification from NBCRNA.
Experience
  • 3-5 years of clinical practice as a CRNA.
  • Experience in academic education, including curriculum development and instruction.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned.

Clinical Duties
  • Ensure patient safety and airway management.
  • Work within clinical privileges, participate in pre-anesthetic evaluations, perform technical procedures, monitor responses, and document care.
  • Administer fluids and blood products, verify equipment and supplies, and participate in surgical safety protocols.
  • Respond in emergencies, teach and evaluate students, and manage controlled substances professionally.
Academic Duties
  • Participate in committees, assist with admissions, deliver instruction, and mentor students.
  • Complete required documentation, serve as a role model, and promote a positive academic environment.
  • Maintain current clinical skills, network professionally, and represent the program externally.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to see details at close range and maintain composure in high-stress situations.
  • Work may involve contact with infectious or hazardous materials and physical patient handling.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, reliability, adaptability, and teamwork.
  • Availability for on-call, night, weekend, or holiday work.
