ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Academic Advisor to join our team, dedicated to guiding undergraduate students in the rapidly evolving fields of Computing, AI, and Cybersecurity. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of academic advising within high-enrollment departments or colleges and a passion for supporting students' academic and professional growth. As part of a collaborative team of three seasoned advisors, the successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, high-demand environment, contributing to the development and success of students pursuing cutting-edge degrees. This is a unique opportunity to become an integral part of the newly established College of AI, Cybersecurity, and Computing—Florida's first and only college of its kind—poised to shape the future of these transformative fields. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, or an academic field directly related to the Advisor's responsibilities, with two years of experience in advising or related academic functions within higher education.

Senate Bill 1310—The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310)—is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S. Senate Bill 1310 allows substitution of work experience for postsecondary education requirements as follows:

  • (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
  • (c) Six years of direct experience for a master's degree;
  • (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree;
  • (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.

Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position as established by the employer. Minimum qualifications requiring a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Advise students individually and in groups regarding academic requirements, class selection, policies, procedures, and campus resources.
  • Assist students with identifying long-term goals and career planning.
  • Help students meet graduation requirements within appropriate timelines and prepare them for future goals.
  • Advise special populations such as new or transfer students, undeclared majors, and minority groups, supporting exploration and academic decision-making.
  • Maintain advising records and confidential student evaluations.
  • Utilize USF information systems to support advising services.
  • Serve on department, college, or campus advisory committees.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to meet advising goals within the scope of responsibilities.
