Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Completed Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) by June 2025. Experience interacting with students in an academic environment (student work experience included).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a college/university setting in an area related to academic advising (student work experience may be considered). Experience conducting presentations and facilitating discussions. Experience in assisting in the coordination of programs and events. Marketing/social media outreach experience. Experience interacting with a diverse student population in an academic environment.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Academic Advisor I is an entry level position designed to offer a new professional an understanding of the advisor role within Higher Education. This is a two-year maximum position in the SUNY advisor series.The position supports the functions of the Division of Undergraduate Education. The advisor communicates with all constituents, provides basic academic advising, assists with front desk operations, and informs students about various advising policies and procedures. The advisor also assists in program planning and development and participates in various Division events. They will assist with high quality, proactive academic advising to SBU undergraduate students. Such advising will occur in individual and group settings on an ongoing basis, and will include regular communication about courses, majors, degree requirements, and policies and procedures.

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
