Job summary

The University of Tampa is seeking an Academic Advisor within the Office of Graduate & Continuing Studies to guide and enroll students in assigned programs using appropriate advising strategies.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President/Director, the role requires collaboration with faculty, registrar, and admissions to ensure accurate program planning and comprehensive student support for adult learners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred.
• One year of administrative experience including customer relationship management.
• Experience advising in an academic setting.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between Graduate & Continuing Studies admissions and academic programs for newly admitted students.
• Assist students with developing appropriate programs of study and understanding academic requirements.
• Support outreach to students and maintain student records in collaboration with program directors and faculty.
• Maintain contact with Registrar and faculty on part-time/adult student records and requirements.
• Continuously update knowledge of curricula and requirements for Graduate & Continuing Studies.
• Coordinate services to support adult students and diverse backgrounds.

Position Details The Office of Graduate & Continuing Studies at The University of Tampa has a position for an Academic Advisor to advise and enroll students to assigned programs using appropriate strategies. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President/ Director of Graduate & Continuing Studies.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between Graduate & Continuing Studies admissions and academic programs in assisting newly admitted students.
• Work with relevant faculty; assist Graduate & Continuing Studies students with developing appropriate programs of study and understanding academic requirements.
• Assist non-business graduate program directors in managing activities related to outreach to students and maintaining student records.
• Maintain close contact with Registrar and relevant faculty on all issues pertaining to part-time, adult student requirements and records.
• Continually update knowledge of all curricula and requirements for Graduate and Continuing Studies.
• Coordinate services to support adult students.
• Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of all cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
• One (1) year prior administrative experience including customer relationship management.
• Experience in an academic setting with activities associated with advising.
• Aptitude and experience with computer systems and databases, preferably including administrative software such as Slate and Workday.
• Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
• Good oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills needed, as well as the ability to establish priorities and manage time wisely.
• Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
• Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Summer schedule: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Background Check Requirements

Finalists may be required to submit to a criminal background check. Some positions may also require a motor vehicle report and/or a credit report.
