As an Academic Advisor in the BYU Marriott Advisement Center, you’ll help students navigate everything from choosing the right courses to reaching the finish line of graduation. You’ll work closely with students, faculty, and administration to remove roadblocks, create opportunities, and help students make the most of their time at BYU. Most importantly, you’ll help prepare the next generation of capable, confident, and Christlike leaders.What you’ll do in this position:Guide a diverse caseload of approximately 800 students toward academic success, graduation, and meaningful career goals.Help students navigate complex academic decisions, policies, and challenges while identifying pathways that keep them moving forward.Build trusting relationships with students and provide proactive support to those experiencing academic or personal challenges.Partner with faculty and university offices to connect students with resources, opportunities, and support tailored to their needs.Evaluate academic plans, petitions, curriculum exceptions, and other special requests using sound judgment and knowledge of university policies.Support students through high-stakes or sensitive situations with empathy, professionalism, and creative problem-solving.Ensure students are on track for graduation by reviewing degree progress and determining readiness to graduate.Contribute to Advisement Center initiatives, admissions, graduation clearance, convocation, and other efforts that enhance the student experience.What qualifies you for this role:RequiredA firm commitment to the mission of BYUBachelor’s degree and 2 years of advisement experience ORMaster’s degree in relevant area and graduate coursework in counseling/advising and career theory and 1 year of advisement experience ORAdvisement certification (or equivalent graduate coursework) and 3+ years of college advisement experienceExcellent written, verbal, listening, and interpersonal communicationHigh caliber decision making and problem-solving skills in complex situationsKeen sense of accuracy, organization, confidentiality, efficiency, and timelinessPreferredMaster’s degree in advisement or counseling, and 3+ years of advisement experience ORMaster's degree in relevant area and graduate work in counseling/advising, and 3+ years of advisement experienceBusiness experience is a plusBYU AIM system knowledge a plusKnowledge of advisement, career and student development theories and practices.Experience in all facets of academic advisement including knowledge of BYU’s majors, programs, general education requirements, admissions, transfer, financial aid, scholarships, and graduation policiesWhat we offer in return:In addition to our competitive pay structure, this position comes with fantastic benefits , including:401k.
