  • Support students facing academic or personal challenges through coaching and referrals to campus resources.
  • Lead the Academic Improvement Plan program by advising students on standing and monitoring progress.
  • Analyze student data and early alert indicators to identify at-risk students and evaluate interventions.
  • Maintain reports and dashboards on student success metrics and admissions trends.
  • Coordinate outreach through information sessions and campus events; present policy explanations when needed.

Academic Advisor (part-time, 28 hours/week)

The BYU Marriott School of Business Undergraduate Advisement Center is seeking a compassionate and student-centered Academic Advisor to support prospective business students in academic planning, major exploration, and career preparation. This role provides individualized, evidence-based advisement that empowers students to make informed decisions, overcome challenges, and achieve their academic and professional goals. Advisors also contribute to student success through proactive outreach, academic improvement planning, and data-informed interventions while exemplifying the BYU Marriott Vision, Mission, and Values and the BYU AIMS. This is an on-site, 28-hour-per-week position.

What you'll do in this position:
  • Advise prospective business students on majors, admissions, academic planning, graduation requirements, and career exploration.
  • Meet with high-risk students (e.g., low GPA, high credit hours, denied applicants) to create realistic academic success plans.
  • Navigate difficult conversations with empathy, de-escalate concerns, and help students explore alternative pathways when needed.
  • Provide holistic, faith-based advising that incorporates personal growth, career readiness, resilience, and lifelong learning.
  • Support students facing academic, personal, or mental health challenges through coaching, skill-building, and referrals to appropriate campus resources.
  • Lead the Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) program by advising students on academic standing and monitoring their progress.
  • Analyze student data and early alert indicators to identify at-risk students, prioritize outreach, and evaluate intervention outcomes.
  • Maintain reports and dashboards on student success metrics, including high credit hours, repeated coursework, and admissions trends.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts through information sessions, mass communications, and representation at college and university events.
  • Approve routine academic matters (e.g., minors, graduation plans, scholarship forms, Academic Improvement Plans) while referring policy exceptions, petitions, and specialized student support needs to the appropriate offices.

  • Computer experience and proficiency in basic office computer programs and equipment
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years in advisement-related experience OR Master's degree OR Advisement certification (or equivalent graduate coursework)

Typical Starting Pay:

$31.25 to $40.50 an hour
