Job summary

Atlanta Gas Light seeks an entry-level field operations worker to support our gas distribution crew. You will assist with deactivation/activation of service, meter reading, and maintenance of above and below ground gas systems while following safety practices.

You will operate basic tools, perform leak checks, and help with routine inspections and customer questions. Valid driver’s license and mechanical aptitude are required to join our team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Mechanical aptitude and basic tool knowledge required.
• Ability to pass basic skills and knowledge assessments.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• MS Office and computer skills basic proficiency.
• Strong written and oral communication abilities.
• Ability to work in hazardous and emergency environments.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently completes customer and compliance orders per procedures.
• Observes safety and regulatory guidelines for compliance.
• Captures documentation in Mobile Data Terminal and notes abnormal conditions.
• Assists in connecting/disconnecting gas service and turning meters on/off.
• Investigates high bill complaints, stop meters, or special readings.
• Performs meter inspections, maintenance of distribution systems.
• Responds to customer questions and provides answers or referrals.
• Supports distribution activities for installation, repair, and maintenance.
• Operates basic equipment and tools; manages traffic control and landscaping.
• Digging, shoring, leak testing, and pipe wrapping.
• Uses gas leak sniffing and odorant detection as needed.
