Job summary

Southern Company Gas is seeking an entry-level team member to support field operations for gas distribution. You will participate in installing, maintaining and repairing gas mains and services, read meters, perform basic inspections, and assist with emergency and safety tasks on a daily basis.

You'll work as part of a crew, operate basic equipment, and help ensure safe, reliable service to customers. A high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and valid Driver’s License required.
• Mechanical aptitude and basic knowledge of hand tools.
• Ability to pass basic skills and knowledge assessments.
• MS Office and computer skills—basic proficiency.
• Good written and oral communication.
• Ability to work in potentially hazardous and emergency environments.
• Knowledge of assigned geographical territory and gas odor recognition.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently completes a route of customer and compliance orders per company policies and procedures.
• Observes safety requirements and regulatory guidelines for compliance.
• Captures documentation accurately in the Mobile Data Terminal; identifies abnormal conditions.
• Assists in connecting/disconnecting gas service and turning meters on/off.
• Investigates high bill complaints, stop meters and special readings via meter reading validation.
• Performs regular meter inspections, paints and maintenance of gas systems above and below ground.
• Supports distribution activities related to installation, repair, and maintenance of the distribution system.
