Job summary

YAI - Seeing beyond disability in New York seeks an Assistant Behavior Intervention Specialist (ABIS) to support the Ames North Residence in Chelsea, Manhattan. The ABIS provides habilitative, behavioral and psychiatric supports under the BIS, trains staff, and ensures accurate data collection and treatment plan implementation.

The role requires clinical knowledge, leadership on shift, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to deliver person-centered services in a residential setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work or closely related Human Services discipline and at least six months of experience with individuals with I/DD or related needs.
• Or four years direct care experience in a YAI program; or two years plus college coursework in psychology or related field.
• Knowledge of behavioral/psychiatric conditions and ability to document and communicate information to staff and providers.
• Excellent written and oral communication; ability to train others on clinical systems and processes.
• Must meet physical demands; willingness to travel regionally and work varied shifts.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise staff on shift, ensuring safety and care.
• Identify habilitative, behavioral, and psychiatric needs and inform actions.
• Train direct care staff on habilitative and behavioral programming.
• Coordinate community inclusion activities and document outcomes.
• Collect and review data to monitor progress toward goals.
• Attend interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to treatment plans.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and regulatory requirements.
