Job Overview
The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has a potential need for an AAT Senior Research Technician to support our government customer located in Fort Detrick, Frederick, MD.
Responsibilities
- Generate, characterize, and sample biological aerosols to support pathogenesis and medical countermeasure studies against biothreat agents, including animal plethysmography, aerosol supervision, bacterial and viral assaying, and decontaminations. Workload: 75-120 aerosol exposures/year.
- Investigate infection events in laboratory animals, support animal protocols, prepare study documentation, and enter studies into the AAT Scheduling program.
- Complete study activities following protocols, including sample processing, inactivation, and inventory management in BSL-2, BSL-3, or BSL-4 labs. Up to 20 protocols/year.
- Perform assays such as ELISA, RT-PCR, cytokine analysis, and others as required.
- Conduct clinical pathology evaluations supporting animal protocols and NHP colony management.
- Assist with data entry, chart creation, manuscript and poster preparation, and present research findings at conferences.
- Maintain laboratory space and equipment, record maintenance, and replenish supplies.
- Mentor and train team members, write and review SOPs, and respond to audits and CAPAs.
- Assist in developing and delivering technical training programs.
- Assemble, calibrate, troubleshoot telemetry systems, and support animal studies in high-containment labs. Workload: ~20 studies/year.
- Operate and maintain telemetry systems, manage inventory, and analyze telemetry data.
- Maintain records per GLP standards, perform weekly/monthly safety and containment area duties, and support animal procedures as needed.
- Complete required training, report safety issues, and ensure compliance with all regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in biological sciences.
- 7 years of relevant aerosol experience.
- Knowledge of aerosol generating platforms and equipment.
- Experience training and mentoring staff.
- Knowledge of BSL-2, BSL-3, BSL-4 practices and safety.
- GLP training and compliance.
- Experience with animal handling and experimental techniques.
- Proficiency in assay techniques (ELISA, RT-PCR, etc.) and telemetry systems (DSI, Stellar, NOTOCORD).
- U.S. Citizenship, BPRP and CS-PRP enrollment, and ability to pass NACI background check.
