Job summary

The Slidell Police Department seeks a Communications Officer to provide essential 24/7 telecommunications support. You will be the first contact during emergencies, directing police, fire, and EMS resources via CAD/NCIC systems and radio networks.

Responsibilities include receiving 911 calls, assessing incidents, coordinating units, and maintaining logs. Strong English reading/writing and calm, professional communication are required; a 12-month probation may apply.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED and pass required tests (typing and CritiCall).
• Ability to read, write and communicate clearly in English during emergencies.
• Experience or training in public safety communications or dispatch is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive and manage 911 calls for police, fire and medical emergencies.
• Determine nature and location of incidents and prioritize responses.
• Operate CAD, NCIC systems, and dispatch consoles to coordinate units.
• Communicate with callers clearly and professionally, across diverse backgrounds.
• Broadcast BOLOs, APBs and officer instructions to responders and agencies.
• Maintain logs and incident records with accuracy and confidentiality.
