The 911 Communication Dispatcher coordinates with the Communications Supervisor daily to ensure all assignments are completed. The role requires a complete knowledge of Communications Center operations, including receiving, processing, and dispatching requests for emergency medical services within the Grady EMS response zone.
Responsibilities include ensuring all vehicles and equipment are ready at all times, tracking and posting units using System Status Management (SSM), and maintaining compliance with the SSM posting plan. The dispatcher will assign units to calls based on proximity and appropriateness, utilizing auxiliary units such as Mobile Stroke Unit, Mobile Integrated Health (MIH), and Mobile Psychiatric Unit (7170) as needed.
Providing excellent customer service and timely responsiveness to co-workers, patients, clients, physicians, and vendors is essential. The dispatcher must maintain Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification by working shifts as an E911 Communications Call Taker as scheduled.
Preferred qualifications include prior use of computer-aided dispatch programs such as Tri-Tech or VisiCad, and Emergency Telecommunicator Certification (ETC) and/or International Academy of Emergency Dispatcher (IAED) Certification. BLS Certification is required within 30 days of hire.
