Job summary

School City of Hammond seeks an Athletic Coach to plan, coordinate, and direct middle school athletic activities. You will work under the athletic director and building principal to implement objectives and ensure participation and sportsmanship.

You will supervise equipment, budgets, staffing, transportation, and schedules, while maintaining high safety and ethical standards in line with district and IHSAA guidelines.

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of the sport.
• Understanding of participants physically, mentally and emotionally.
• Skill in teaching the fundamentals of the sport.
• Desirable character and personality traits.
• High moral standards.
• Ability to establish relationships with pupils, parents, staff and administration.
• Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations.
• Availability to supervise activities beyond the school day.
• Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible to building principal and Director of Physical Education and Athletics.
• Establish objectives for the program and plan implementation.
• Develop parts of the athletic program prioritizing participation and sportsmanship.
• Coordinate activities with staff and ensure alignment with school schedules.
• Provide vigorous activities to develop fitness and motor skills.
• Foster leadership, citizenship, and self-discipline through sports.
• Follow all applicable rules and policies (IHSAA, Hammond, etc.).
• Assist with budgeting, equipment, staffing, transportation and scheduling.
• Support safety procedures for injuries and medical clearances.
