Job summary

The School City of Hammond is seeking a dedicated high school assistant coach responsible for planning, coordinating and directing athletic activities as assigned by the athletic director/building principal.

You will work with the principal and Director of Physical Education and Athletics to set program objectives, ensure safety, develop students' leadership and sportsmanship, and align with IHSAA rules and district policies.

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of the sport being taught.
• Thorough understanding of participants—physically, mentally and emotionally.
• Skill in teaching fundamentals of the sport.
• Desirable character and personality traits.
• High moral standards.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with pupils, parents, staff and administration.
• Thorough knowledge of applicable rules and regulations.
• Available to supervise activities beyond the school day.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with the building principal and the Director of Physical Education and Athletics.
• Establish objectives for the program and implement a plan to achieve them.
• Develop part of the athletic program with emphasis on participation and friendly competition.
• Ensure athletic activities align with the school program and policies.
• Provide vigorous activities to develop fitness and skills.
• Foster leadership, citizenship, and sportsmanship in students.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable rules and conference requirements.
• Prepare and manage equipment, schedules, and transportation as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and professional development as approved.
