Thomas College in Waterville, Maine is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor (SFS FAC) to support student financial aid processing with accuracy and timeliness. The Student Financial Services Financial Aid Counselor (SFS FAC) isaccountable for performing all necessary support functions of theFinancial Aid processed in a timely and accurate manner. The SFSFAC assists with processing ISIR’s and collects all data requiredof a financial aid applicant and sends correspondence to thestudent to encourage prompt submission of missing information andverification procedures. The SFS FAC also helps maintain entrancecounseling compliance, master promissory notes and annual studentloan acknowledgement is completed before funds are disbursed tostudent’s accounts. Including review of accurate sub-loan levelsfor students each term and making adjustments as necessary.

When prospective students and their parents come to campus for atour, the SFS FAC may meet with the families to discuss thefinancial aid procedures and processes. These meetings are done inperson, virtual meetings, telephone and email communications.

The SFS FAC completes all tasks associated with acceptance,rejection, corrections, and updates to awards. The SFS FAC providesa second review of all financial aid awards to ensure federal andstate compliance. The SFS FAC must also update the in-process datathat reflects aid pending on the student's tuition account. Whenfunds arrive at the college from alternative loans andscholarships.

The SFS FAC is also responsible for helping students and familiesfile the FAFSA annually.

The SFS FAC position requires a person who is articulate andfriendly, with a professional appearance. Computer experience iscritical. The person must be able to maintain an orderly workspaceand be able to withstand frequent interruptions. He/She must beable to relate well to people over the age of fifteen. This jobinvolves a combination of customer service skills and technicaloffice skills. Willingness to provide students with support with avariety of campus issues and knowledgeable with other departmentfunctions, to direct students where they need to go.

An Associate Degree is required, Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.Two to three years of financial aid experience is required. Strongwritten and verbal communication skills are a must. The idealcandidate needs to be a team player and willing to work hard tosupport our students and the institution.
