Job summary

Abbott Laboratories in Sturgis, MI is hiring an Assistant Microbiologist I for the 3rd shift (Tue-Sat) to perform environmental microbial sampling and testing in a GMP environment. Responsibilities include aseptic sampling, testing of pathogens, and documentation for quality and batch release.

Strong attention to detail and teamwork are essential. Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, lab studies plus math, and 1–2 years of lab experience or equivalent manufacturing

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED required.
• 1 year of college lab studies and 1 year of college mathematics plus 2 years of lab experience OR 4 years in manufacturing environment.
• OR an Associate's Degree with 1 year of lab studies and 1 year of math plus 1 year of lab experience.
• OR a Bachelor's Degree with 1 year of lab studies and 1 year of math.

Responsibilities

• Carry out sampling of EMP requirements and comply with department objectives.
• Apply GMP and aseptic technique in microbiological sampling (air, swabs, steam, water).
• Test for pathogens such as Salmonella, Cronobacter, E. coli, Staph. aureus.
• Use aseptic technique and plating to identify organisms.
• Support batch release and QA with quality system items.
• Communicate clearly with team members and operate with minimal supervision.
• Maintain documentation for all samples collected.
• Perform housekeeping and waste disposal; uphold EH&S standards.
