Job summary

Abbott in Sturgis, MI is seeking an Assistant Chemist I for the 2nd shift. You will perform analytical testing on raw ingredients, in-process and finished products, ensuring GMP/GLP standards and quality guidelines are met.

You’ll collaborate with chemists and operators across departments and help maintain the quality system. The role requires a high school diploma or GED with college lab and math coursework, plus 2 years of lab experience or equivalent manufacturing experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with basic college lab studies and math coursework.
• 1 year of college lab studies and 1 year of college mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus) plus 2 years of laboratory experience, or 4 years in a food/pharma manufacturing environment.
• Alternative: science-related Associate's or Bachelor's degree with required lab studies and math, plus lab experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical testing on raw ingredients, in-process and finished product, and plant utilities.
• Maintain GMP and GLP training and documentation.
• Identify and troubleshoot minor testing issues and report out-of-spec conditions.
• Support environmental sampling and test for compliance to specifications.
• Contribute to quality system effectiveness and cross-department collaboration.
