Job summary

Anderson International is hiring for a 3rd shift Machinist to operate auxiliary manual equipment and finish components for CNC and manual departments. Primary duties include broaching, planer milling, slab milling and drill presses to prepare parts for the next operation.

Secondary duties cover manual turning and milling when schedule requires. The role requires blueprint reading, shop math and the ability to work with minimal supervision on the floor.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of manual machining experience on supporting equipment such as broaching, drill press, saws, slab or planer milling.
• Manual turning and milling experience a plus.
• Good blueprint reading and shop math.
• Able to use calipers, micrometers, height gauges and gauges.
• Ability to work 3rd shift with overtime as needed.
• Follows safety rules and PPE requirements.
• Basic computer skills for clocking work orders.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, routings and work orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, tooling and sequence of operations.
• Horizontal broach: set up and run broaching for keyways, splines and other internal forms; select broaches and bushings and check results with gauges.
• Planer mill: set up and cut ID keyways to drawing size, depth and position.
• Slab mill: set up and slab mill to produce keyways to intended specifications.
• Drill press: drill, ream, countersink and tap using fixtures, vises and clamps; locate holes from layout or the drawing.
• Saw: cut bar, plate and tube stock to length; set blade speed and feed and hold length tolerances.
• Manual turning and milling (secondary): run manual lathes and Bridgeport-type mills as needed.
• Lay out parts with height gauges and surface plates; deburr and break edges before parts move on.
• Check parts with calipers, micrometers and gauges; record first-piece and in-process checks.
• Change blades and replace cutters; maintain equipment and report machine problems.
• Clock on and off every work order operation; report labor accurately.
• Communicate job status and handoffs to the next shift.
