Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners, process data with Artec Studio, and deliver CAD-ready outputs for diverse field projects across refineries, ship channels, and manufacturing facilities. You will verify data on site, ensure drift control, and collaborate with the modeling team to support reverse engineering and QA processes.

The role requires mobility, a valid driver's license, and willingness to travel; training and certification

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld scanner on real projects.
• Familiarity with Artec Studio or comparable software; mesh cleanup and export.
• Familiarity with CAD drawings and reading structural/fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and able to carry equipment.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record; travel as needed.
• Willingness to travel to regional hubs and job sites.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD software; Geomagic Design X a plus.
• Certifications (ACI, ICC, NICET) a plus; sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of structures and components before pours and during construction.
• Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlap.
• Verify scan capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, and mesh cleanup; export to STL/OBJ/E57/CAD.
• Produce deviation maps, reports, and anchor bolt coordinates with drawings or CAD.
• Create scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering; hand-clean meshes for modeling team.
• Document procedures, equipment settings, and chain of custody for forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned; occasional site travel.
