Job summary

Colonna’s Shipyard, Inc. is seeking a 1st Class Welder for the 2nd shift in Norfolk, VA. You will perform high-quality welding on ship components, following blueprints and procedures under supervision.

Requires at least 5 years in marine welding or a registered apprenticeship, proficiency in SMAW and FCAW, and the ability to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and operate in confined spaces. Benefits include a 401k match, paid holidays, and PTO.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years welding experience in a marine/shipyard environment or graduation from a registered apprenticeship program relevant to the trade.
• Proficient in multiple welding techniques and have a strong understanding of welding procedures and safety standards.
• Proficient in metalworking, welding and blueprint interpretation.
• Able to lift heavy materials, work at heights and operate in confined spaces.
• Proficient in Stick Welding (SMAW) and Flux Core Welding (FCAW) in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding tasks using SMAW, FCAW and carbon arc welding on steel and aluminum components.
• Prepare materials and surfaces for welding by cleaning, grinding, and pre-heating as necessary.
• Ensure welds meet industry standards through visual inspections and applicable testing.
• Repair damaged or defective welds and maintain welding equipment for safety and reliability.
• Identify and resolve welding-related issues on the job site.
• Layout workpieces based on measurements and technical drawings.
• Perform post-weld finishing, including grinding and smoothing weld seams.
• Collaborate with team members and coordinate with other trades to meet deadlines.
• Mentor department employees and assist in training as needed.
