2nd Shift Paint Department Supervisor
The ideal candidate for the Paint Supervisor position will be self-directed and motivated along with possess a strong background in auto body painting techniques, a keen eye for detail, exceptional leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship.
Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Team Management: The Paint Supervisor will be responsible for leading efficient manufacturing practices and most importantly, the candidate will be accountable for delivering Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost throughout the department.
- A positive outlook on all production-related goals and duties along with a good attendance record is a necessary trait for this position.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of prep, caulk & painters. Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure consistent quality and productivity.
- Paint Process Oversight: Oversee the entire painting process, from surface preparation to final topcoat application, ensuring adherence to company schedule, standards, and industry best practices.
- Quality Control: Inspect painted vehicles for uniform color, texture, and overall finish quality. Identify and address any imperfections, runs, or other issues promptly.
- Color Matching: Utilize color mixing techniques and equipment to achieve accurate color matches according to manufacturer specifications and customer preferences.
- Paint Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and oversee the upkeep of paint booths, spray guns, compressors, and other painting equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety.
- Inventory Management: Manage paint and supply inventory levels, ensuring an adequate stock of materials while minimizing waste and costs.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and practices within the paint shop to ensure a safe working environment for all team members. Address and report any safety concerns or incidents, ensuring all accidents are investigated thoroughly and plans in place to eliminate the risk of recurrence.
- People Development: Make sure all team members are trained to effectively perform their duties. Develop and train back up team members for key jobs. Assist in building teams and promoting teamwork.
- Communication: Collaborate with other departments, both ahead and behind paint, to ensure efficient workflow and effective communication regarding paint job status and any potential issues.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve painting processes, techniques, and equipment to optimize efficiency and overall quality of work. Track and coordinate rework and missing parts as needed in an effective manner.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of paint mix formulas, color codes, film builds and other relevant data to ensure consistency in future work.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in automotive painting or industrial painting, with a proven track record of producing high-quality finishes.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in various auto body work and painting techniques, and application methods. Knowledge of different types of paints and primers. Experience with bed lining is also a plus.
- Detail-Oriented: Keen attention to detail and a critical eye for identifying imperfections and ensuring flawless finishes.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot painting-related issues and make real-time decisions to maintain productivity and quality.
- Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills, enabling clear interactions with team members, other departments, and customers.
- Manufacturing paint shop environment.
- Time Management: Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Continuous Improvement: Proactive approach to seeking out opportunities for process improvement and staying current with industry advancements.
