Job Title: Material Handler - Forklift Operator

Schedule: Monday-Friday from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm

Location: Carol Stream, IL **This position will be relocating to our new state-of-the-art facility in Elgin, IL in 2025!

Summary of Job

The Forklift Operator's main responsibilities include operating electric, diesel, propane, or gasoline-powered forklifts to transport materials on the shop floor according to work order tickets or verbal instructions from supervisors or management. They support supply chain and production lines by collecting, loading, shipping, and receiving warehouse products. Equipment used also includes electric jacks, strapping tools, hammers, pry bars, and other hand tools.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Ensure all safety procedures are followed, including OSHA guidelines.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Follow all company rules and policies regarding conduct and safety.
• Operate equipment safely, including wearing PPE, seat belts, and adhering to speed and horn usage guidelines.
• Perform daily inspections of forklifts and report any malfunctions.
• Keep inventory and activity logs updated.
• Conduct cycle counts as required.
• Interpret picking tickets and product orders to move, gather, or ship items.
• Move materials between receiving, storage, and other designated areas.
• Ensure accurate order fulfillment and proper packaging for delivery.
• Unload and load trucks, securing loads properly.
• Use wireless RF scanning to verify inventory accuracy.

• Knowledge of material-handling equipment is an asset.
• Strong safety awareness.
• Good math, reading, and communication skills.
• Excellent hand/eye coordination and motor skills.

• Understanding of warehouse layout and operations.

Environment

• Exposure to moving equipment.
• Indoor work environment.
• Potential heat exposure exceeding 90°F.
• Humidity levels may exceed 80%.
• Noise levels may exceed 85dB.

Physical Characteristics

• Frequent standing, stooping, squatting (up to 75%).
• Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 60 pounds).
• Occasional typing or voice-assisted documentation.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 2 years of powered forklift operation experience.
• Forklift certification per OSHA standards.
• Must be at least 18 years old to operate a forklift.

Compensation

The annual base pay ranges from $18/hr to $22/hr, depending on experience and performance. This is part of Pregis's total compensation package.
