Job summary

Colonna’s Shipyard, Inc. in Norfolk, VA is seeking a skilled Welder to join our on-site team. The 1st Class Welder will perform high-quality welding on ship components and structures under supervision, reading blueprints and following procedures.

The role requires experience with stick welding and flux core welding, surface preparation, and adherence to safety and quality standards. Strong teamwork and physical readiness are essential for this demanding environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of welding experience in marine or shipyard settings.
• Proficiency in stick welding and flux core welding; ability to interpret weld procedures and standards.
• Ability to lift heavy materials and work in confined spaces; follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding tasks using stick welding, flux core, and other methods on steel and aluminum.
• Prepare materials by cleaning, grinding and pre-heating as needed.
• Inspect welds visually and via non-destructive testing per standards.
• Repair welds and maintain welding equipment for safety and reliability.
• Lay out workpieces from measurements and drawings; finish welds after joining.
• Collaborate with team to ensure timely project completion and mentor others.
