Job summary

ND Paper on the Converting Floor seeks a Machine Assistant 1 to support the Operator in setup, operation, and changeovers, acting as the primary quality checkpoint during runs. The role requires safe operation when briefly needed in the Operator’s absence and growing toward full Operator competency.

2nd Shift: 2PM-10PM, Mon-Fri with occasional weekends; position offers comprehensive ND Paper benefits and a pathway to broader responsibilities within the Converting Department.

Qualifications

• High school/GED required.
• 6–12 months of manufacturing experience, converting preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret job tickets including specifications and layouts.
• Basic understanding of corrugated quality standards and tolerances.
• Bilingual English, Mandarin, or Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment.
• Assist the Operator with all phases of job changeover: removing and staging plates, dies, and ink systems; set up fold sections.
• Set up and verify glue system temperatures, bead placement, and application weight at job start; monitor quality.
• Perform and document first-article quality inspections at startup against specs.
• Conduct in-process quality checks; document results and communicate deviations.
• Make minor press adjustments under Operator direction; develop independence over time.
• Lead outfeed, stacking, and quality sampling tasks.
• Monitor production counts, speed, and waste rate; alert Operator to trends.
• Assist with ink mixing, color matching, and ink viscosity checks; maintain ink station cleanliness.
• Log downtime events and ensure changeover area is ready for next job.
